국방부 군사편찬연구소는 한미동맹 70년의 역사를 정리한 『한미동맹 70년사』를 작년 11월 한미동맹 70주년을 맞이하여 한미동맹에 대한 국민적 신뢰와 공감대를 확산하기 위해 발간하였습니다.
2023년이 한미동맹 체결 70주년이었다면, 올해 2024년은 한미동맹 발효 70주년입니다. 한미상호방위조약은 1954년 11월 17일(한국시간 11월 18일)에 발효되었으며,
70여 년이 지난 11월 현재 『한미동맹 70년사』 영문 번역본을 출간하게 되었다. 이 책이 실무자들과 연구자들에게 유용한 자료가 되기를 바라며,
나아가 한미 간의 상호 이해 증진은 물론 한미 군사관계 연구에도 활력을 불어넣을 수 있기를 기대합니다.
